Experience | What kind of experience is it to verify the wisdom of predecessors in yoga practice?

Yoga reading notes | Yoga training notes | Yoga practice insights | Yoga stories | Yoga and life “Classics are classics because they have been verified by countless people and stand the test of time.

Like the feelings we usually share, it is likely that they are only staged, while scriptures are not.” This is the view of Ah Tang practitioner Vicky on yoga books.

At first, when she practiced Atang on her own, her understanding of Ashtanga Yoga remained more on the level of asanas.

She could feel that she could do more and more asanas and her body would be better and better if she continued to practice.

With the accumulation of practice time, she felt something different.

She found that her practice was more light.

She seemed not to exert so much during the practice.

She could feel the calmness of breathing and internal changes, so she would like to know more about this genre.

So she met with Inheritance.

In the past, Vicky’s reading experience was not very friendly.

Either he opened a page of a book and fell asleep, or he did not open it at all.

Some books were put on the shelf.

When she began to read the book Inheritance, she found that she could read it.

Although it was a vertical version of traditional Chinese characters, everything happened so miraculously.

In the process of reading, she will have a lot of resonance and will be very excited.

For example, she seems to sympathize with the impact of Ah Tang on practitioners mentioned in the book; The book mentions the feelings, experiences and the process of posture breakthrough of the practitioner, and she is also familiar with them.

She also shared a small reading method.

When reading Inheritance, she did not sit in one place and chew with it, but took pictures of the contents of the book with her mobile phone, took the subway or other odd time to read it.

Later, Vicky came into contact with Yoga Mara.

After reading a few pages, she felt that the book was very like a textbook.

The preamble in the front was dry, and the pose introduction in the back was simple.

The first time, she didn’t finish reading it, and temporarily ignored it.

In 2022, for some reason, she picked up the book again, began to read the previous part carefully, and read it several times.

She found that every sentence was very meaningful, not just written there.

She could not help tasting it carefully, and then verified it in her own practice.

Later, Vicky also read the content of Yoga Sutra, which is not the common one, but the summary of Samadhi in Yoga Sutra translated by Shihong.

Although the words are difficult to understand, a bit like an academic paper, and the story is not so strong, she will still eat them.

This book is explained according to every verse of the Yoga Sutra.

She will read it according to her own preferences and carefully ponder over every word.

Vicky mentioned that she once saw a video of the old leader.

He said, “We should practice every day and read some classics.

Gradually, she felt that she could read more.

She is still trying to read the “Bhagavad Gita”.

Because there are many characters in the story, she can hardly understand at first, nor what to express, but recently she seems to understand a little.

She thinks it is the progress brought by yoga practice.

These classic books are often difficult to read, but she won’t give up easily because she can’t understand them.

She will still read them word by word, which is a kind of progress in her eyes.

“I think classics are the wisdom of predecessors.

I just need to do what they have summarized, and verify and experience it from my practice.

No matter whether it is the same or not, I will try the methods they mentioned first, and maybe I can have my own sense.

It is always easier than crossing the river by feeling the stones, which will waste more energy and time.” For these yoga classics, Vicky will read repeatedly.

She said that when she practices at different levels, she will taste different if she goes back to read the same classics.

I’m very happy to talk about yoga books with Vicky.

She has a strong perception of asanas.

Maybe the shape of asanas can reflect some of her perception, but more content only happens in her heart.

I guess some of her perception should be inspired by reading yoga classics, which is a kind of learning to apply.

Yoga classics are written by masters.

Does she seriously study the classics and stand on the shoulders of masters? Can we see higher and go further? I think so, and I hope that more people can make a long-term progress in yoga.
