It is believed that people often come into contact with yoga bricks, yoga ropes, yoga chairs and other accessories during asana practice.
In fact, the yoga bandages that are easy to be ignored also contain mystery.
In yoga, the bandage is pattabandha, which has three purposes: to entangle the forehead – siropattabandha; Entangled eyes – netrapattabandha; Both are entangled – sironetrapattabandha.
In his teaching, Master Iyengar once found that it was very difficult for many students to practice the six headed Zhanshen pose for five minutes, while wrapping bandages can obtain the effect of the six headed Zhanshen pose – to capture the senses, and draw back from the external world to the internal world of the body.
As a sense organ, the six headed Zhanshen pose has eyes and ears close to the brain and heart.
Any interference they suffer will disturb the brain and heart.
If the eyes are the windows of the brain, the ears are the windows of the heart (consciousness).
When the brain is active, the eyes will quickly protrude forward.
The same is true when sleeping.
Once interference occurs, the eyes will move.
The voice interferes with the heart, and the brain will feel pressure.
The slight sound vibration can react to the ear faster than electronic equipment, which will affect the heart and brain.
Although there is no physical movement of the ear, the rigidity of hearing can be really felt.
The eyes react quickly and become stiff and tense.
Under the gentle pressure of the bandage, the muscles and nerves at the base of the skull can become soft.
The eyes and ears gradually return to the inside, and the vibration of the sensory organs, the beating of the brain, and the shaking of the mind begin to stop.
Wrapping your eyes can quickly suppress the vibration, and your brain and heart will enter a passive state of alertness.
You will experience manolaya and cittanirodha (passivity of mind and mind, inhibition of consciousness fluctuation).
In the case of headache, eye burning, glaucoma and retinal displacement, bandages are not only necessary, but also should be used as a means of prevention and treatment.
When the brain is stimulated, upset, or nervous, or when we lose our temper, get dizzy, lose sight or burn our eyes, no matter what posture, we should cover our eyes.
The zombie style needs to cover the eyes and head.
When you are lazy, dull or depressed, you should do the posture with your eyes open.
In supporting head handstand, supporting shoulder handstand, plough style, bridge style shoulder handstand, and reverse arrow style, bandages can also relieve mental tension, relieve nerves, and keep blood pressure in a normal state.
There are many benefits of bandages, so how to use them correctly? I bring you a usage strategy.
Let’s have a look.
Wrap your forehead and eyes and simply sit on the cushion, holding the bandage roll with your right hand, so that the reverse side of the bandage is facing you.
Hold one end of the bandage with your left hand and put it behind your head, then slowly remove the bandage roll and wrap it around your head in a counterclockwise direction.
First wrap the right ear, avoid the eyes, wrap the forehead from right to left, then wrap the left ear, and finally return to the back of the head.
When winding the second circle, cover both ears and eyes completely.
When the bandage is wound to the end, insert the end into the gap of the bandage and fix it.
Wrap the forehead and start to wrap the head in the same way.
You don’t need to cover your eyes, but you need to cover your eyebrows.
Wrap your eyes and start wrapping your head in the same way.
You don’t need to completely cover your forehead, but you need to cover your eyes.
When staying in supine posture, you can cover your eyes gently with a folded bandage or a folded towel.
Note: Do not wrap the bandage too tightly to avoid pressing the forehead and eyes.
Do not insert the end of the bandage behind your head, or it will affect the position of the skull when you lie on your back.
If the bandage is firmly wrapped and the eyes and forehead feel comfortable, it can be kept until the end.
When you are ready to practice or change a pose, you can lift the bandage from your eyes to restore your vision.
When you stay in a new pose, you can restore the bandage to its covered state.
You can use soft cotton cloth as bandage or ordinary medical bandage to wrap your forehead, head and eyes.
The use of bandages can help us understand what is manolaya.
After experiencing this quiet state of mind and brain, you can remove the bandage and learn to reach peace through self-control.
